Dear Iowa, Please don't kill me! Love, Steve

Let me preface this by saying that some consider me a bad driver, and, to be fair, I did get my license in San Antonio, where half of the population doesn't speak English well enough to take driver's ed, and the other half didn't actually take their driver's test. (Seriously, if you pass drivers ed in SA, you don't need to take your test.)

Despite that, drivers in Iowa still scare the crap out of me. I just spent half an hour slogging my way home on my bike through the first real snowfall of the season. Here are the things I saw:

  • No buses - Good call! Public transportation during inclement weather never ends well.
  • A lot of school buses - I guess it's too dangerous for adults to be on buses, but kids are just fine!
  • People failing to drive up hills - I saw a lot of spinning wheels.
  • People turning around halfway up hills, getting a little stuck, and then blocking both lanes.
  • Very few turn signals - Why would you not use your blinkers?!? This is the worst time to be driving badly! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!?

Needless to say, I shall not be making it to my Dungeons and Dragons game tonight. I'll be cowering at home, writing this blog post, and praying that a car doesn't come hurtling through my second story window and kill me.

Our ancestors feared winter because it brought death by starvation and cold.  We fear winter because it kills us the same way every season does around here: with stupidity.

Unparalleled accuracy, unqeuiovacl clarity, and undeniable importance!
